Right before lunch on Friday, we headed to the airport after saying our goodbyes. Flight was scheduled to leave at 5:10 pm. Check-in and Security was a breeze. Children under 12 do not have to take their shoes off going through security. Big brother J was so excited. I realized how small of a town we lived in when he was nervous about going down the escalator! After the third one, he was a pro, lol. We grabbed a snack and drinks to wait out the time until boarding.
Once everyone was on the plane and they did their normal emergency rundown , we taxied out. And then just sat. Finally the pilot said some luggage made it onto the plane without their owners so we had to return to the gate to have it taken off. He mentioned there was some other issue that had to be checked out. We sat at the gate for an hour with a few updates of the luggage being located and removed, an issue with one generator which turned into one engine was leaking oil and would take 2 hours to repair. Next they announced we would be getting a new plane so we all got off and made our way to a different gate to wait for an hour for the new plane to show up and then it had to be re catered and safety checked before we could reload. Surprisingly people held their calm and there were no irate passengers to deal with. We were on our way by 8:30pm, completely wiping out our 3 hour layover time in Frankfurt. Dinner was served by 9:30 on the plane :)
Somehow we got economy plus seats and had a little extra foot room, a nice person to sit next to and working TVs on both seats. There was one cute little baby, maybe 4 months old, a few rows back who was having the hardest time settling down and going to sleep. Reminded me that we may be the ones with a screaming kid on the way home! We both were able to sleep a little. Since they turned the lights down and everyone was sleeping I was able to pump without issue. The flight went well.
Only issue was we missed our connecting flight by 10 minutes because we arrived so much later than scheduled and when we landed another plane was at our gate and we had to wait until it moved. They had already rescheduled most everyone's connecting flights so we just had to wait in line to confirm it. Then we had 45 minutes until it took off which meant racing to the other end of the airport which is not easy to do in Frankfurt. We made it, got new boarding passes and loaded on only to discover we had been placed in first class! That flight was much shorter.
It was raining when we landed and no snow was on the ground. Our luggage was the first ones off the plane. All that was missing was the stroller so we let lost and found know and then went to find our driver who had been waiting for over 2 hours for us as I had not been able to notify them of our new flighty. Philip took us to get money exchanged at the mall and then to the Budapest to get checked in.
We ordered room service, unpackaged and got done sleep.
The pictures are all out of order:
